FAQs
What’s included in an individual STOP THE BLEED® Kit?
Each kit includes essential tools to control life-threatening bleeding: a windlass tourniquet, trauma dressing, compressed gauze, nitrile gloves, trauma shears, and a permanent marker for time-stamping tourniquet use. Intermediate kits also include a chest seal and hypothermia blanket. Advanced kits include all of the above, plus a hemostatic dressing. All kits come with written instructions.
Who should carry a bleeding control kit?
Anyone can be a first responder in an emergency. These kits are designed for teachers, drivers, security staff, construction workers, and everyday community members – especially in high-risk environments or crowded locations like public transportation hubs, schools, churches and job sites.
Can STOP THE BLEED® Kits be used without medical training?
Training is recommended in order to properly and effectively use bleeding control techniques and tools. While not a substitute for training, our STOP THE BLEED® Modules include a step-by-step instruction sheet with diagrams to guide users through bleeding control techniques. Each kit is designed for intuitive use with purpose-built tools that align with official STOP THE BLEED® training – empowering bystanders to act quickly in an emergency.
Do these kits meet any official standards?
Yes. Some states have specific guidelines around bleeding control kits. Find a list of bleeding control kit laws and guidelines by state here. The advanced STOP THE BLEED® modules and station kits meet OSHA and ANSI B.1 standards for bleeding control kits. All components are chosen from leading brands trusted by emergency responders worldwide.
